Laura Molinelli
Laura Molinelli
Laura Molinelli has been playing the “local” scene for the past 15 years, whether it be downtown New York City or the inns, taverns and festivals of New England. With four self-produced albums of original material under her belt , she begins laying tracks this summer for a new collection of original work due out in early 2011.
Laura has shared the stage with some major acts, opening for diverse such artists as: Lucinda Williams, Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky, John Gorka, The Band, NRBQ, The Samples, Louise Taylor, Lisa McCormack , Jim Gilmour, Rebecca Hall, Lou Gramm (former lead singer for 80s supergroup, Foreigner ) and most recently,
“The Legendary Lead Singers of the Temptations”.
According to the Rutland Herald she “writes with intense imagery and emotion” and
The Brattleboro Reformer calls her voice “sweet and rich as it resonate(s) with that plaintive sound of bluegrass singers… so when she sings about places far away and unfamiliar you can’t help but long to be there too”.
Molinelli continues to perform with Southern Vermont’s favorite bluegrass band,
“The Bondville Boys” though lately, Molinelli takes a side-trip from bluegrass to explore her deep roots in pop music and rock n’ roll. Born in New York and raised both there and in Vermont meant being exposed to many different styles of music (her father worked for BMI and often brought home warehouse overstocks of Jazz, R &B, Broadway Musical, Classical). Growing up in the ‘burbs of nyc, radio stations offered everything
from old school rap to early punk, and what they now call “classic” rock
so the range of influence is varied.
She begins work on the new album with help from the Vermont-born “brother combination” of Christopher and John Clark (formerly of alternative rock bands “Sliver” and “Grub Butler”). The Clark brothers will be joining Molinelli for New England dates this summer, beginning with their debut appearance at the
Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester on June 5.
They will be joined by Singer-Songwriter Jim Gilmour for this opening event.
